Abstract in English
The Humifert process has been to improve utilization of phosphatic rocks considered by manufactures as low-grade ore. In addition, this process utilizes organic waste such as biosolid to create an organic phosphate compound. The Humifert process involves reacting phosphate rock with organic waste in a bench reactor, with nitric acid that is just generated when nitric oxides come into the mixture (Sternicha 1980; Silverol et al. 2007). The apatite grains from the phosphatic rock are partially dissolved, releasing PO43-, which can associate with organic phases present or transformed during the nitric reactions. Then, organic phosphatic compounds are generated, more soluble than natural phosphate rocks, but less soluble than traditional fertilizers. The aims of this study were (1) to make phosphate-organic fertilizers with igneous phosphatic rock from Angico dos Dias, Bahia, Brazil and two kinds of biosolids (non-composted and composted); (2) to evaluate Humifert compounds produced before and after modifications in Humiferts reactor and if this modification promoted an improve on P solubility and (3) to characterize compounds obtained by several techniques (pH, elemental composition, sequential P fractionation, P solubility, X Ray Diffaction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Fourier Transformer Infrared Spectroscopy, Termogravimetry, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance and Laser-Induced Fluorescence Spectroscopy. The results obtained indicate that Humifert process had effectively converted P from phosphatic rock to more soluble forms and new P compounds associated with inorganic and organic phases. The characterization of Humifert compounds showed that process modified phosphate rock as well as organic matter. Compounds demonstrated some transformations, from less soluble forms to more soluble forms and we were supposed that during Humifert process was formed humic-like substances and also brushite-like precipitation. This transformation is significant, because the acid attack from Humifret process was capable to degrade organic matter and thus formed new humato-phosphate complex.
