Abstract in English
In an active margin, orogenic processes such as accretion and collision can generate metamorphic belts and those mechanisms are responsible for the addition and/or thickening of the continental crust. Gold deposits of several origins could occur during orogen evolution in particular mineral paragenesis and metalliferous associations. Hence deposits in metamorphic belts exhibit characteristics compatible with the tectonic environment where these were formed, which enables knowing their genesis. In the Quadrilátero Ferrífero region, most of the main gold deposits in the meta-vulcanosedimentary rocks of the Rio das Velhas greenstone belt are considered as stratabound type associated to banded iron formations (Ribeiro-Rodrigues et al.1997). However, those related with shear zones are restricted, poorly studied and of insignificant interest in mineral exploration, although with relevance in geological research because they could be markers of orogenic phases. Western Quadrilátero Ferrífero region of Pitangui, the Turmalina gold deposit is shaped by two tabular NW-trending and N-dipping bodies where the basement shows silica and chlorite as the main alteration products. In this deposit, gold is associated with pyrite, pyrrothite, and arsenopyrite, with associated quartz as gangue, and tourmaline, muscovite and apatite as hydrothermal alteration products. It is located at the Pará de Minas shear zone belonging to the Pitangui system and embedded in the meta-vulcanosedimentary rocks of the Nova Lima Group (Rio das Velhas greenstone belt). These rocks exhibit mylonitic fabrics and metamorphic minerals belonging to amphibolite facies. A metamorphic association with garnet, staurolite, cummingtonite, biotite, chlorite, plagioclase and quartz was formed in approximate temperature of 600 ºC and pressure of 6.6 kbar. whole rock and garnet Sm-Nd isochron ages of 2076 '+ OU -'60 to 2184 '+ OU -'39 Ma were determined for the Riaciano metamorphic event. An isochron of whole rock - sericite of 1928 '+ OU -'2.6 Ma represents the age of the hydrothermal alteration induced by the infiltration of the mineral-forming fluid. This age was confirmed by an age of 1951 '+ OU -'330 Ma of five points on Pb-Pb in leaching from arsenopyrite, sulphide associated with the gold and by the Rb-Sr isochron age of 2023 '+ OU -'110 Ma, also obtained in arsenopyrite. Microthermometric studies on carbonic aqueous fluid inclusions retained in quartz crystals associated to the gold at the Turmalina deposit, show that the fluids from which the gold was precipitated, quartz and iron pyrite were trapped at high temperatures (~600 ºC). After the crystallization of quartz, there was a mixing of the original fluids with cooler and less saline ones which caused continuous boiling and partitioning of the saline components. These fluids were retained as liquid fluid inclusions co-existing with other vapour-rich at similar temperatures. The trapping of carbonic fluids originally immiscible (effervescent) was proved that began at about 340 ºC and at pressure of 1.3 kbar until very low temperatures with continuous immiscibility. An older step of trapping and formation of quartz at temperatures around 600 ºC was recorded in some preserved inclusions. The fluids from which the gold precipitated in the Turmalina gold deposits had temperatures above 400 ºC. The transportation of the gold might occurred as chloride complexes whose deposition was related with the reduction of the temperature and modifications in the chemistry of the fluids from the processes of mixing and immiscibility of hydrothermal fluids. The origin of kinetic energy which carried these fluids should be related to the activation and reactivation of the shear zones belonging to the Pitangui system that encloses this Turmaline deposit. The deposition of the gold continued during all the processes of quartz crystallization always catalyzed by mechanisms and processes from dynamothermal activities in the Riaciano period.
