A presente tese trata do estudo palinológico efetuado nos sedimentos do subgrupo Itararé (Neopaleozóico), no Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Neste sentido, cerca de 167 amostras coletadas ao longo de 8 perfis estratigráficos transversais à faixa de afloramentos representativos dessa seqüência sedimentar são analisadas sob o ponto de vista palinológico. A estratigrafia abrangendo sos aspectos lito e bioestratigráficos, é discutida sucintamente para avaliar os problemas concernentes aos sedimentos deste subgrupo. Uma rica e variada assembléia microflorística englobando 131 espécies pertencentes a 64 gêneros é identificada. Uma revisão completa destes palinomorfos é efetuada cuidadosamente. Três novas espécies denominadas Granulatisporites microverrucosus, G. sinuosus e Cannanoropollis romboides e uma nova combinação de cannanoropollis rimosus são propostas. Estudos qualitativos e quantitativos permitem reconhecer três palinozonais informais distintas denominadas Palinozona A, B e C, correspondentes, grosso modo, a zonas de associação. A zona de Associação A caracteriza-se por 90% de triletes e 7% de monoletes; a zona B inclui 76% de triletes e 20% de monoletes; e a zona C representa 42% de triletes e bissacados, ocupando segundo lugar perfazendo 32% enquanto os monossacados contribuem 12%. Esta palinozonas são comparadas com as outras já reconhecidas em diferentes bacias gondvânicas da América do Sul e outros continentes. A provável idade Carbonífera Superior a Permiana Inferior é sugerida para estes sedimentos. O limite inferior pode alcançar até o Carbonífero Médio. Com base na distribuição geográfica e estratigráfica, destas espécies nas regiões gondvânicas, seu significado paleoecológico, paleogeográfico e paleoclimático é discutido.

The presente thesis deals with the palynological studies carried out on the sediments of Itarare Subgroup (Late Paleozoic) in São Paulo state, Brazil. In this connection nearly 167 outcrop samples obtained from 8 measured sections representing this sedimentary sequence are analysed from the palynological point of view. The stratigraphy including the litho and biostratigraphic aspects is scunccintly discussed to evaluate the problems concerning this subgroup. A rich and varied miofloral assemblage comprising 131 species belonging to 64 general is identified. A careful taxonomic revision of these paplynomorphs is executed. Three new species namely granulatisporites microverrucosus, G.sinuosus and cannanoropollis romboides and a new combination cannanoropollis rimosus are proposed. Qualitative and quantitative studies enable to recognize three distinct palynozones in these sediments and are informally designated three Assemblage zones A. B and C. The Palynozone A is made up of 90% triletes and 7% monosaccates; Palynozone B consists of 76% and 20% monoletes while the Palynozone C comprises 42% triletes, the disaccates occupying second position makes up 32% and monossacates too are represented by 12%.These palynozones are compared with other knoun palynozones in the different gondwana basins of South America and other continents. Aprobable Upper Carboniferous-lower Permian age is suggested for these sediments.The lower age limit may extend to middle carboniferous. Analysing the geographic and stratigraphic distribution of these species in the gondwanic and extra-gondwanic region, paleogeographic, paleoclimatic and paleocologic significance is discussed.
