Hidrogeologia

Abstract in English
The assessment of the groundwater resources of the Azángaro formation dominantly composed of the lacustrine deposits and located in Peruvian territory, State os Puno, Province of Collao, District of llave, is discussed in this master dissertation. The area of interest is part of the Titicaca Lake Basin, which is about 3840 m height a.s.l., and covers 180 km². The cold and arid climate, dry for the most part of the year, which makes it difficult to the development of the local and regional agriculture. The local morphology of the area is characterized by a soft waved plain surface contrasting with a set of elongated shaped hills or isolated slopes. This geomorphological pattern was developed over volcanic and sedimentary Formations from Cretaceous to Tertiary. These rock sequences exhibit great strucutural complexcity and are related to the tectonic evolution of the Peruvian Andean Cordilheira. In the studied area, the oldest outcrops correspond to chalky rocks of the Ayavacas Formation and sandstones of the Puno Group, which are host of the aquifer of interest. The unconsolidated deposits of the Azángaro Formation, which represent the aquifer system, were hidrogeologically investigated using lithological data from 25 wells and 37 vertcial electrical soundings besides hydrodynamic tests. The physical space of the reservoir comprise three distinct facies units as recognized within the local stratigraphic column and geological profiles, as follows: the upper part is composed of fine grained sediments intercalated with sand gravel layers; in the middle part, different granulometry sandy matrix supported gravels are found with and the lower unit is predominantly made of claystones. The middle layer unit as deduced from the geological profile, makers the bulk of the aquifer of interested mainly due to its morphology as defined by the VES (Vertical Eletrical Soundings). The thickness of the aquifer is variable from 30 to 60 m, the water-level is not deeper than 4,50 m and the hydrodynamic parameters are of the order of, K= 19 m/day, T = 758 m²/day and the withdrawal range from 100 to 360 m³/h, which represent a specific yield from 10 to 20 m³/h.m . In some particular cases this value can reach 80 m³/h.m.
