Abstract in English
In this work we use the impedance spectroscopy technique to study the behavior of electrolyte solutions when submitted to a sinusoidal electric potential in the frequency range from 1mHz to 30MHz. For this, we initially used Milli-Q water and we increase the ionic concentration by addition of KCl. Although the extensive frequency range of measurements, we emphasize the results obtained in the low frequency region, dominated by interface phenomena. The measurements were made by means of flat and circular electrodes of different materials as, surgical steel, Titanium, Gold and Platinum, separated by different distances d = 0,5 ; 1,0; 2,0; 3,0 e 4,0 mm. Our experimental results are interpreted by means of a generalization of the Nernst-Planck-Poisson model where it is considered an isotropic liquid containing two groups of ions limited on both sides by identical ohmic electrodes. In the results, we observe that in the low frequencies region, the Ohmic current, which is dominant in this region, begins to decrease as f decreases, causing an increase in the impedance. For a certain frequency the real part of impedance R tends to a values close, whatever the thickness d of the sample and the imaginary part of impedance ? has a similar behavior. This is due to a shielding effect of the ionic layer that is formed nearby of the electrodes. These layers are formed more quickly the higher the electric field within the sample. For this reason the plateau R starts at higher frequencies as smaller is d. The model is able to reasonably describe the impedance measured with electrodes steel, Titanium and Gold, but deviate markedly from the results with the electrodes of Platinum. Despite this, we believe that the theoretical description is good, considering the extensive range of frequencies and the extent of concentrations employed in KCl solutions.
