Abstract in English
The sarcopenia is defined as the mass and muscle function loss that occurs with the ageing. The muscle mass is maintained as result of the constant balance between synthesis and protein degradation and with the advance of age, occur changes of muscle fibers that has its diameter reduced, changes in the proportion of different types of fibers and reduction of contractile protein. To characterize the sarcopenia in Wistar rats in different ages were measured maximum volunteered strength, proteasome activity and total expression of Akt 1, p70S6K, MuRF 1 and Atrogin 1 in Soleus and EDL muscle. For the first time we characterized the sarcopenia in 13 months old rats from the reduced tissue mass of Soleus and EDL muscle and of maximum volunteered strength analyzed by a protocol ladder climbing test. The catalytic activity of proteasome show a distinct pattern according to the analyzed muscle and the animals' age.
