Title in Portuguese
Populações da Aranha Nephilengys cruentata Fabricius, 1775 (Araneae, Tetragnathidae), em Edificações Humanas
Keywords in Portuguese
1. Aranha
2. Ecologia evolutiva
3. Competição intraespecífica

Abstract in English
Adult size and weight, reproductive success and tenacity of the orb web spider Nephilengys cruentata were studied in five populations located in anthropic habitats of São Paulo University campus. The total number of spider marked was 691 in 1996, 1997 and 1998, using the mark-recapture method. The weight of 308 egg sacs was estimated. There was statistically significant evidence of intraspecific competition between adult females by effect of density on the weight and size. The comparisons of populations demonstrate a temporal variation at either low and high spider density at same season influenced by habitat differences
