Inspirada no Painel Intergovernamental para Mudanças Climáticas (IPCC), foi criada em 2012 a Plataforma Intergovernamental sobre Biodiversidade e Serviços Ecossistêmicos (IPBES), no âmbito do Sistema ONU. É o mais novo organismo científico e diplomático voltado à produção de relatórios sobre os ecossistemas planetários e objetiva concentrar autoridade científica para orientar a formulação de políticas públicas ambientais. Diferentemente do IPCC, contudo, possui maior diversidade disciplinar e prevê desde sua concepção a inclusão de outros atores sociais e sistemas de conhecimentos, como as comunidades indígenas e locais. Partindo de uma pesquisa documental em registros oficiais da Plataforma, procurou-se investigar através de quais discursos, metologias e processos decisórios os conhecimentos indígenas e locais são reconhecidos e incluídos nos trabalhos do IPBES, atentando-se para possíveis conflitos e apagamentos. Em linhas gerais, tentou-se indagar quais as premissas ontológicas subjacentes às concepções modernas de natureza e de política implicitamente adotadas pelas ciências modernas no âmbito do IPBES e, consequentemente, quais fricções surgem quando contrapostas a outros regimes de conhecimentos, buscando-se verificar a possibilidade de ocorrência de rupturas na ontologia oficial dos modernos. Por fim, constatou-se um comprometimento por parte dos cientistas em fazer constar estes conhecimentos nos produtos da Plataforma, ainda que tratados de maneira tipicamente diplomática e cautelosa com a qual o IPBES busca construir sua legitimidade política e científica.

Created in 2012, the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services was heavily inspired by the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) and it is the newest diplomatic and scientific international body whose objective is to produce assessment reports on the planet's ecosystems and centralize scientific authority aiming to orient policy and decision making. Differently from the IPCC, however, it has greater disciplinary diversity and aims to include a broader range of actors and knowledge systems, such as indigenous and local. By analyzing official IPBES documents this research goal was to investigate through which discourses, methodologies and decision processes these other knowledge systems might be included, foresighting ontological conflicts. It aimed to comprehend what are the ontological assumptions of the modern sciences that make IPBES and what frictions arise when in contact of other knowledge regimes and if there are breaches in the modern ontology. Finally, it was noted a compromise to include these other forms of knowledge in the Platform, treated in a meticulously and diplomatic way that characterizes the operation of IPBES, through which it aims to build its scientific and political legitimacy.
