Keywords in Portuguese

transformação no modelo de gestão estratégica

Abstract in English
This report studied the transformation in the strategic management of soccer clubs that are in a profissionalization process. Considering the innovative nature of this subject, the research strategy was exploratory and it sought to identify the major reasons that push the clubs to the profissionalization direction and to improve knowledgement about the strategic management of soccer clubs in the new football industry. The methodology was based in case study research and it was divided into five complementary phases: 1) historical and economic context analysis of the subject; 2) conception of a preliminary model of analysis; 3) pilot case study based on secondary data – the Manchester United, from England, a typical case of profissionalization in soccer clubs management; 4) the improvement of the model of analysis and the conception of a research protocol to the field research;; e 5) two case studies conducted in two brazilian soccer teams in profissionalization process – C. R. Flamengo and A. D. São Caetano. The results of the study showed that an effective strategic positioning is needed by the brazilian clubs. It must consider the internal and external forces of the industry and the oportunities and threats of the market (both the customers and players markets). This new positioning requires new functional and core competences so that the soccer clubs can achieve their aimed results (both in financial terms – to have profits or to survive – and sportive terms – to win the championships or to keep on playing in the major league divisions).
