A busca por vantagem competitiva entre como fonte de diferenciação estratégica é uma constante para as empresas modernas. Este trabalho objetiva apresentar como dois processos fundamentais de toda empresa: o Processo de Desenvolvimento de Produto e o Gerenciamento da Cadeia de Suprimentos, têm papel fundamental na estratégia corporativa para alcançar a diferenciação; como estes processos se relacionam entre si e qual o impacto desse relacionamento sobre o agente humano, na figura do Engenheiro de Produto. São apresentados, portanto, estes dois processos; estudadas suas formas de organização e papel estratégico individual; a maneira pela qual estes processos se relacionam; as características esperadas dos profissionais ligados a eles; os sistemas de informação que suportam a integração desses processos e a atividade dos profissionais e, por último, afirmado o papel fundamental do agente humano na concretização desse processo de integração e na geração do diferencial competitivo das empresas.

The pursue of any competitive advantage that generates strategic differentiation is a constant to modern companies. This issue objective is to present how two basic processes of every company: the Product Development Process and the Supply Chain Management, play central role in the corporate strategy in order to achieve differentiation; how these processes relate to each other e what is its impact upon the human agent, thought as the Product Engineer. These two processes are then presented; their organization and individual strategic role are studied; their relationship mechanisms; their required professional characteristics; the information systems that support this integration and its professionals and, at last, the fundamental role of the human agent in the completion of this process and consequent generation of competitive differentiation is affirmed.
