Abstract in English
This masters' thesis aims to explore the dialogue between Glauber Rocha and the film critic Walter da Silveira, founder of the film society Cineclube da Bahia, in Salvador, Bahia, during the fifties and sixties. Silveira was appointed by his pupil Rocha as one of the three decisive theorists for the Cinema Novo, alongside Alex Viany and Paulo Emílio Sales Gomes. The impact of Rocha's cinephile formation is felt in his theoretical maturation as a filmmaker. This research intends to investigate and highlight the theoretical importance of Walter da Silveira in the history of the Cinema Novo movement in Brazil.
