Esta tese apresenta a história da educação nas Bienais de Arte de São Paulo. Delimitada entre a primeira edição em 1951 e a instituição do Educativo Permanente Bienal em 2011, a pesquisa permitiu concluir que no decorrer desses sessenta anos a história do ensino e da aprendizagem da arte na Bienal configura-se em dois períodos. O primeiro caracteriza-se por "Propostas Educacionais em História da Arte" realizadas entre 1951 e 1984. O segundo constitui-se por "Propostas Educacionais em Arte/Educação" realizadas entre 1985 e 2011. No primeiro período são analisados a função educacional da Bienal, as exposições com fins didáticos e os cursos ministrados no Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo, para preparar as primeiras equipes de monitores da Bienal. No segundo período são analisados os projetos educacionais, os demais cursos para preparação de educadores e a diversidade de ações pedagógicas realizadas na Bienal. Particularizadas são as análises referentes às contribuições da Bienal para a formação e profissionalização de educadores em museus; as críticas dedicadas aos projetos didático/pedagógicos da Bienal; os materiais educacionais e cursos dedicados a professores; e as atividades artísticas decorrentes da Bienal de São Paulo. Resultante da análise de documentos e periódicos arquivados na Fundação Bienal de São Paulo, no Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo e no Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo, por se tratar de enorme quantidade de informações, aplicou-se a metodologia qualitativa para selecionar e compreender os agentes relacionados ao tema, proporcionando visão detalhada, complementada por análises bibliográficas e informações coletadas em entrevistas, websites e meios audiovisuais.

This thesis presents the history of education in Biennial Art of São Paulo. It is delimited between the first edition in 1951 and the institution of Biennial Continuing Education in 2011. The research concluded that during those sixty years, the history of teaching and learning in Biennial art was configured into two eras. The first was characterized by "Educational Proposals in Art History" conducted between 1951 and 1984. The second was constituted by "Educational Proposals in Art Education" conducted between 1985 and 2011. The first era of educational function of Biennial exhibitions which also included educational purposes and studies were taught at the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo. The first team of monitors of Biennial Art were prepared for analysis. By the second era, educational projects, and other studies were being prepared. Educators and a diversity of educational activities were conducted at the Biennial and were analyzed. Specialized analysis related to the contributions of the Biennial for training and occupation of educators in museums, initiated criticism in relation to didactical/pedagogical projects were revealed. Biennial Educational materials and studies were dedicated to teachers and artistic activities arising from the São Paulo Biennial. As a result, the analysis of documents and periodicals archived in the Biennial of São Paulo, the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo and the Museum of Contemporary Art of University of São Paulo, were where there was a huge amount of information found, and applied a qualitative methodology to select and understand the related topic providing detailed insight complemented by bibliographic analysis and information collected from interviews, websites and audiovisual media.
