Esta dissertação apresenta o estudo de caso da peça Missa Leiga, escrita por Francisco de Assis Pereira, o Chico de Assis em 1971, e montada pela primeira vez no ano de 1972, em São Paulo, com direção de Ademar Guerra e produção de Ruth Escobar. O objetivo da pesquisa foi analisar a dramaturgia e reunir o material crítico em torno da montagem paulistana tentando compreender o que este texto e a montagem representaram para a questão de resistência cultural no Brasil. Para isso, procurou entender a trajetória do autor por meio de documentos, entrevistas com sujeitos envolvidos no processo de concepção do espetáculo e pesquisa bibliográfica. Para tanto, foi realizada pesquisas em arquivos, levantamento da fortuna crítica relativa ao período e ao autor.

This thesis presents the study of the theatre piece Missa Leiga, written by Francisco de Assis Pereira, Chico de Assis in 1971, and set for the first time in the year of 1972, in São Paulo, directed by Ademar Guerra and produced by Ruth Escobar. The aim of this investigation is to analyse the dramaturgy and to gather the critical material around the Paulistan montage. We try to understand what these writings and this montage represented in the context of cultural resistance in Brazil as well. For this purpose, we try to understand the author's trajectory through documents, interviews with characters involved in the process of conception of the spectacle, and bibliographical research. Therefore, it was carry out researches in archives, the gathering of critical fortune related to the author's period.
