Deliberação e Corresponsabilidade
Redes sociais digitais

Abstract in English
Contemporary society employs communication processes mediated by digital platforms at the local and global levels deeply affecting relationships among several social players. After the onset of internet, communication processes left linear models of information dissemination behind to emphasize multidirectional and interactive communication processes. In this con-text, digital social networks became powerful communication channels in Brazil. Based on this new communication behavior, this research tries to understand the digital social network communication processes and practices adopted by five public companies from the Federal sector. An empirical study was carried out including the content analysis of institutional and citizens' messages found on the fanpages of the sampled companies and five interviews with communication coordinators and those responsible for the digital social networks in these public companies. Results from the data analysis showed that digital social networks are rele-vant relationship channels between public companies and the citizens since they facilitate access to information of collective interest with expediency and low cost; increment institu-tional actions accountability; help public companies understand the demands expressed freely by the citizens thus fostering dialogical and participative processes. Most public companies try to value dialogical processes with citizens to solve immediate problems and debate topics of collective interest. Even so, the public sector still lacks mechanisms to understand citizens' demands made via digital networks in order to use them to improve communication processes and institutional management
