Esta Tese é uma investigação da produção dos sentidos que se formam no diálogo entre as representações de masculinidade na telenovela brasileira, focada no estudo de A Favorita (João Emanuel Carneiro, Globo, 2008-09), e as representações das masculinidades presentes em diversas manifestações discursivas do ambiente social. Nossa hipótese é a de que esse sistema de representações se forma numa determinada semiosfera (Y.Lotman) e contribui para modelizar (Y.Lotman) as experiências e práticas da masculinidade em nossa cultura atual. Estudamos a telenovela como um texto da cultura (Y.Lotman), como documento de época e lugar de memória coletiva (M.Halbwachs), como um gênero do discurso e uma enunciação da esfera da ideologia do cotidiano (M.Bakhtin) e do senso comum (R.Silverstone, A.Gramsci, A.Heller). Os objetivos principais desta pesquisa são os de perceber como se constroem os sentidos da masculinidade na telenovela em diálogo com outras manifestações discursivas do ambiente social brasileiro e de contribuir para os estudos de comunicação de forma a consolidar um percurso metodológico que permita observar o fenômeno da articulação de sentidos entre telenovela, audiência e sociedade brasileira, a partir da investigação dos diversos fatores envolvidos no processo comunicacional que é dialógico por natureza. Será preciso, para tanto, construir uma trajetória que não se detenha apenas no pólo da produção, ou da recepção, mas no espaço discursivo que se forma entre eles e que dá forma às transformações das experiências cotidianas, práticas sociais e à formulação de novos consensos que permitem as mudanças socioculturais.

This research is an investigation of the production of meanings that are formed in the dialogue between the representations of masculinity in the Brazilian telenovela, focusing on the study of A Favorita and the representations of masculinity present in several discursive manifestations in social environments. Our hypotheses is that this system of representations is formed in a determined semiosphere (Y. Lotman) and contributes to model (Y. Lotman) the experiences and practices of the masculinity in our current culture. The telenovela is studied as a cultural text (Y. Lotman), as a document of a specific time and collective memory place (M. Halbwachs), as a discourse genre and an enunciation of the daily ideology sphere (M. Bakhtin) and common sense (R. Silverstone, A. Gramsci, A. Heller). The main goals of this research are: to understand how the masculinity meanings are constructed in the telenovela along with other discursive manifestations of the Brazilian social environment; and to contribute to the studies in Communication in order to consolidate a methodological approach that allows one to observe the articulation of meanings phenomenon among telenovela, audience and Brazilian society through the investigation of several factors involved in the communicational process that is a dialogue by nature. It is necessary, then, to construe a route that is not only focused in the production and reception but also in the discursive space between them and that molds the daily experiences transformations, social practices and to the formulation of new consensus that allow socio-cultural changes.
