Este projeto de pesquisa tem por objetivo estudar o desenvolvimento da linguagem da iluminação cênica, em sua relação com os caminhos da encenação. O eixo central é a transformação da função da iluminação cênica, de instrumento da visibilidade a elemento estrutural e estruturante da escrita cênica, constituindose como linguagem. Através de um olhar abrangente sobre a história e a estética do teatro, pretende-se pontuar os trabalhos exemplares, de forma a descrever esse processo de transformação e suas variáveis, instituindo conceitos para uma análise específica da iluminação cênica. A dissertação de mestrado compreende um recorte de tempo que vai do fogo à revolução teatral, com ênfase no período de 1880 a 1914.

The present research projects aim is to investigate the development of the stage lightning language in its relation with the ways of stage performance. The central aspect is the transformation of the function of stage lightning, from a visibility instrument to structural and structuring stage language. Through a broad approach over theatress History and aesthetics, I intent to point out the exemplary works, in order to describe this transformation process and its variables, stablishing concepts for a specific analysis of stage lightining. The dissertation covers a time period which goes from the usage of fire until the theatrical revolution, emphasizing the years in between 1880 to 1914.
