Estudo sobre a constituição e estado atual das unidades de informação especializadas em mulheres no Brasil. Trata-se de pesquisa exploratória que tem como referencial teórico os estudos sobre os movimentos de mulheres e feministas, os quais inspiraram a constituição das unidades de informação sobre mulheres, em âmbito internacional e nacional. Discorre-se sobre o surgimento e consolidação da disciplina Histórias das Mulheres. São identificadas as pesquisas que relacionam Estudos de Mulheres e Ciência da Informação no Brasil e aquelas sobre Unidades de Informação especializadas em mulheres. Como estudo empírico são analisados os documentos oficiais dessas unidades brasileiras e aprofundado, como estudo de caso, o Instituto Cultural Rose Marie Muraro. Concluí-se que o surgimento dessas instituições no Brasil tem forte influência dos grupos de mulheres surgidos na Ditadura Militar. A manutenção e consolidação dessas instituições são um desafio, tanto em âmbito nacional quanto internacional, devido à histórica omissão das mulheres na construção do conhecimento e da livre participação na sociedade, quanto sobre a dificuldade das instituições que lidam com história e a memória em superar a negligência de diverosos agentes. São apresentadas sugestões para fortalecimento/consolidação de tais unidades de informação, como a atuação em rede e a abertura de diálogo com coletivos políticos de mulheres jovens.

This study covers the emergence and the current state of the units of information specialized in women in Brazil. This is an exploratory search whose theoretical frame of reference are studies about feminist and women movements, which inspired the formation of the units of information about women, on both the national and international spheres. We elaborate over the formation and consolidation of the Women's History discipline. Researches that connect Women's Studies and Information Science in Brazil, and those about Units of Information specialized in women, were both identified. As an empirical investigation, we analized the official documents of these Brazilian units; and as a case study, we deepened into the Rose Marie Muraro Cultural Institue library. We conclude that the appearance of these places in Brazil have a strong influence of women groups that were formed during the Military Dictatorship. The maintenance and con-solidation of these institues are a challenge, both nationally and internationally, not only for the historical omission of women in the world of formal knowledge and free participation in soci-ety, as well as the difficulty of institutions dealing with history and the memory of overcoming negligence of diverting agents. Suggestions are presented for strengthening / consolidating such information units, such as networking and opening dialogue with young women's political groups.
