Abstract in English
The aim of this study was to evaluate the microhardness of resin cement Variolink II (Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) used to cement full ceramic crowns (IPS e.max Press, Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) in three preparations substrates (dentin, metal and composite resin). Thirty molars were divided into three groups, according to the type of the substrate. In the dentin substrate group (D), the crowns were prepared in dentin; the metal (M) and resin (R) substrates groups, the crowns were sectioned at cement enamel junction level and restored with metal cast post and composite resin filler, respectively. Each group was subdivided into subgroups to evaluation after 7 days and 3 months of storage in deionized water. After cementing the specimens were sectioned buccolingually at the center of the crowns, and the surfaces were polished to microhardness test along the cement line. The microhardness values were obtained in the cervical, medium and occlusion thirds of the buccal and lingual surfaces and in the occlusal surface. The results were submitted to a three-way ANOVA (substrates / storage / thirds and occlusal surface) to a prior statistical analysis and did not show significant differences between the occlusal surface and thirds in the two storage periods. Then two-way ANOVA (substrate and storage) and the Tukey test were performed. The results in the resin group were statistically lower than those of dentin and metal, after 7 days of storage. Therefore, the microhardness of resin cement did not change in the different thirds and face and that the influence of the resin substrate was time-dependent.
