A falta de informação dos profissionais da área da Saúde, principalmente os de Odontologia, quanto à indicação do obturador faríngeo (OF) e do processo de sua confecção limita as possibilidades de se ampliar o tratamento da disfunção velofaríngea (DVF) em pacientes com fissura palatina e, consequentemente, as possibilidades da melhora de fala para estes pacientes. Objetivos: 1) Desenvolver um material multimídia (vídeo) sobre o uso do OF para o tratamento da DVF; 2) Avaliar o conhecimento de alunos de 4º de Odontologia, antes e após o acesso ao material. Material e Métodos: O estudo foi dividido em duas fases: 1) elaboração do material em mídia eletrônica, incluindo o planejamento e desenvolvimento do roteiro, a seleção dos participantes e o desenvolvimento de um questionário com 17 questões do tipo Falso ou Verdadeiro para avaliação do material pelos alunos; 2) apresentação do material para os alunos e resposta ao questionário. Participaram do estudo 31 alunos do 4º ano de Odontologia da FOB/USP, após terem assinado o Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido. Os alunos responderam às questões do questionário, antes de assistirem ao vídeo e imediatamente após o terem assistido. Todo o processo ocorreu em sala de aula, demorando 35 minutos. Resultados: O vídeo pronto e editado teve duração de 6 minutos. Os alunos acertaram uma média de 83% das questões antes de assistirem ao vídeo, aumentando os acertos para 95% após o acesso. Dentre estes acertos, os referentes às perguntas 1, 4 e 8 mostraram significância estatística. Conclusão: O material multimídia elaborado teve um impacto positivo no entendimento dos alunos de Odontologia quanto ao tratamento da DVF em indivíduos com fissura palatina, por meio de obturador faríngeo.

The lack of information among health professionals, especially dentists about the indication of pharyngeal obturator prosthesis and the process of its fabrication, restrict these professionals to the possibility of expanding the knowledge of velopharyngeal dysfunction (VPD) treatment in patients with cleft palate, and consequently the possibilities of speech improvement for these patients. Objectives: 1) Develop a multimedia material (video) about the use of pharyngeal obturator for VPD treatment; 2) Evaluate the knowledge of dentistry students, before and after access to the material. Methods: The study was divided in two phases: 1) elaboration of the material in an electronic media, including planning and development of script, selection of participants, and development of a questionnaire with 17 True or False questions to evaluate the material by the students; 2) presentation of the material to the students and questionnaire reply. Thirty one senior dentistry undergraduate students from FOB/USP participated of this study after signing the Consent Form. The students answered the 17 questions before watching the video and immediately after watching it. The entire process lasted 35 minutes in their own classroom at the university. Results: The edited video lasted 6 minutes. The students scored an average of 83% of the questions before watching the video, increasing the hits to 95% after watching it. The difference between the answers for the questions #1, #4, and #8 was statistically significant. Conclusion: The video had a positive impact on students understanding regarding to the VPD treatment in cleft palate patients by means of pharyngeal obturator.
