Title in Portuguese
Análise Morfológica Comparativa do Periodonto de Sustentação Submetido a Forças Biológicamente Excessivas, em Ratas Adultas, sem e sob o Uso de Anticoncepcionais, e Ratas Prenhes.

Abstract in English
The aims of this work were: a) to study morphologically the periodontium subjected to excessive forces in rats under normal conditions, pregnant rats, and rats under oral contraceptive use; b) to compare the sensibility of the periodontal ligament external sides and the interradicular septs area. Thirty-five animals were used, divided into 7 experimental groups of: 7, 14, and 21 days of pregnancy, under 7 and 14 days of oral contraceptive use, and under normal conditions. The upper molars were moved for 7 days. Microscopic analysis, H.E. stained, involved pressure and compressed zones, external and interradicular zones. The results allowed us to conclude that: 1) Cellular and tissue changes characterize undermining bone resorption, in the periphery of the periodontal area subjected to pressure. The most evident morphological aspects were: extensive hyalinized zones, macrophages associated promoting phagocytosis, local absence of fibroblasts, cementoblasts and osteoblasts; intensive presence of clastic cells, including at the dental surfaces, and specially surrounding the hyalinized zones and in the endosteal spaces; intensive and extensive bone and dental resorption zones, related to the magnitude of the hyalinized zones. In the compressed areas, the changes observed occurred less extensively and with less magnitude; 2) Interradicular zones were more sensitive to the forces applied on the periodontal ligament, showing cell and tecidual changes precociously, than the external dental areas, both under pressure and compression; 3) Pregnancy and the use of oral contraceptive did not exacerbate nor reduce the cell and tissue changes observed in the pressure and compressed areas, when compared with the ones detected in non-pregnant rats and not rats under oral contraceptive use.
