Abstract in Portuguese
Grupo 1: KM(RA+SC), grupo 2: KM(RA+ED), grupo 3: KM(AR+SC), grupo 4: KM(AR+ED), Grupo 5: F8 (RA+SC), grupo 6: F8 (RA+ED), grupo 7: F8 (AR+SC), grupo 8: F8 (AR+ED), Grupo 9: RX (RA+SC), grupo 10: RX (RA+ED), grupo 11: RX (AR+SC), grupo 12: RX(AR+ED). Todas as situações analisadas influenciaram a resistência à fratura.

Fracture strength of evaluation “in vitro” of class II restorations using the Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) technique
Abstract in English
The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the influence of three variables on the fracture resistance of glass ionomer class II restoration (MO or DO), using the ART technique. The three variables are the material, composed by Ketac-Molar(KM)-3M ESPE,Fuji VIII(F8)-GC and Rely X(RX)-3M ESPE, the presence(PR) or absence of additional retention(AR) and the insertion method, by using a centrix syringe(CS) or an spoon excavator(SE). A total of 120 superior human premolars were divided into to 12 groups. Group 1: KM(PR+CS), group 2: KM(PR+SE), group 3: KM(AR+CS), group 4: KM(AR+SE), Group 5: F8 (PR+CS), group 6: F8(PR+SE), group 7: F8(AR+CS), group 8: F8(AR+SE), Group 9: RX(PR+CS), group 10: RX(PR+SE), group 11: RX(AR+CS), group 12: RX(AR+SE). The specimens were stored in a stove at 37o C and 100% of humidity for 24 hours. After this period, the teeth were submitted to the compressive axial loading in a testing machine–EMIC, by 0.5 mm/minute of speed, until the breakdown of the restoration. The mean values plus standard deviations, in Kgf, were: Group 1: 65,66±0,245, group 2: 62,58±0,241, group 3: 57,11±0,196, group 4: 51,94±0,231, Group 5: 63,05±0,217, group 6: 60,120±0,239, group 7:55,11±0,196, group 8: 49,20±0,163, Group 9: 50,99±0,246, group 10:48,810±0,255, group 11: 45,53±0,266, group 12: 41,88±0,304. The results were analyzed by statistic tests, three way ANOVA (p<0,001) and Tukey, revealing a mutual influence statistically significant among all tested variables: material x retention; material x insertion; retention x insertion and material x retention x insertion. All analyzed situations have influenced the fracture strength.
