Abstract in English
Oral cancer has the highest incidence among cancers in the world, occupying the sixth place. In Brazil, it is estimated for the year 2016, the occurrence of about 15 000 new cases. Therefore, early diagnosis becomes important to minimize morbidity and mortality, increasing the survival of patients. The objective of this study was to identify the perception of the oral health professional of primary care, when there is suspicion of oral cancer. Semi-structured interviews with 17 dentists were carried out until the saturation of responses by a single evaluator. After transcribing the interviews were identified two categories and these were analyzed using qualitative methods. We note that networking professionals realized their role in the National Health System, as well as their responsibility in face of cancer detection. However, they face difficulties to fully play its role and coordinate the care line, due to existing dislocations in the system. We conclude that improvements are needed for the articulation of network levels, to allow the full exercise of basic care.
