Abstract in English
Facial traumas are frequent in patients that need emergency care, mostly in association with polytrauma, with several etiologies. Facial skeletal regions are more susceptible to fractures, especially mandible fractures. The tomographic images are applied in the pre and postoperative follow-up of the patient and through the Hounsfield scale obtained by tomographic images it is possible to evaluate the bone quality of the region examined. Thus, the objective of this investigation was to verify the relationship between the values of the Hounsfield scale obtained through computed tomography, which are indicative of the bone mineral density, of patients with mandibular fractures at the pre and postoperative moments, as well as the difference in these values at distinct postoperative times, age groups and cervical vertebrae. CT images were analyzed at T0 and postoperatively, checking the side of the fracture already fixed with osteosynthesis material, ROI in HU scale; besides measuring the cervical vertebrae C1 and C2. For the statistical tests, a bidirectional ? of 0.05 and a confidence interval (CI) of 95% were considered. With the results of the study, we concluded that bone has complete reparative physiological capacity; however there is an influence of age, postoperative time and control group on BMD values.
