Keywords in Portuguese
cálcio
clareamento dental
esmalte
fósforo
pH
Abstract in Portuguese
Os produtos clareadores analisados foram o Excel 3 Day White 7.5%, Excel 3 Day White 9.5%, Pola Day 7.5%, Pola Day 9.5%, Vivastyle 10% e Vivastyle 16%.

The bleaching effect on human mineral dental enamel content

Abstract in English
The aim of this study was to evaluate the bleaching technique capacity to promote a mineral loss of the human dental enamel in function of concentration, pH and number of applications of the bleaching agent, and also SEM observing the enamel surfaces after bleaching and 37% phosphoric acid exposition. The analyzed products were the Excel 3 Day White 7,5%, Excel 3 Day White 9,5%, Pola Day 7,5%, Pola Day 9,5%, Vivastyle 10% and Vivastyle 16%. The chemical analysis had been proceeded using 28 human incisors enclosed in acrylic resin in way that an area of 50,2 mm 2 remained in direct contact with the bleaching gel and the phosphoric acid. The mineral loss was detected by ICP-AES. The samples had been analyzed daily for the period of one week and in the 14° day of bleaching. The results obtained by Kruskal-Wallis statistical test (p=0.01) had permitted to conclude that all the bleaching agents used had caused mineral content loss of the human dental enamel. The amount of lost chemical elements was not influenced when bleaching agents with the same pH where compared. The pH bleaching agent’s values had influenced in the mineral loss of the human enamel. The acidic pH had resulted in higher losses, compared to the amounts lost when the treatment was the 15 seconds acid etching. The mineral content loss was not influenced by repeated applications of the bleaching agent. The photomicrography had disclosed that all the enamel surfaces submitted to the different bleaching procedures had shown alterations of its original topography. Severe irregularities had been noticed with the use of products with acidic pH, in some areas these modifications had been similar to the alterations caused for the acid etching.
