Abstract in English
This study is about a qualitative evaluation of the care offered to family members by a Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS), a service that is performed according to the guidelines of the Psychiatric Reform. The study, carried out in the municipality of São Lourenço do Sul in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, aimed at evaluating the care offered to family members at the CAPS Nossa Casa - CAPS Our Home - vis-à-vis the quality. The Dialectic Hermeneutic Circle was utilized as the technique for the collection of data, the method recommended by the Evaluation of Fourth Generation proposed by Guba e Lincoln. The collection instruments were the observations and the interviews with the team, users and family members. The questions that emerged from the evaluation process were grouped into two thematic axes: evaluating the physical structure and the human resources of the CAPS Nossa Casa and the activities addressed to the family care. The shelter appears as a space in order to listen to the family members and the working team is perceived as being of easy access and described as human by the family members. These professionals utilize notes and telephone in order to communicate with the families. The family meetings are important for exchanging life experiences and information although they require more coordination. The home visits are performed regularly, putting professionals and family members close to each other. It has been evidenced an overcharge of social service that centralizes the tasks related to the families. The family association derived from the need of inserting the family into the service; however this care unit makes few visits to the service and does not feel as being part of the treatment. There is thought about a new group approach intended to the family members to talk about their feelings. This study is believed as a possible contribution for the team of the CAPS Nossa Casa as well as of other mental health services in order to visualize and reflect about the practices addressed to the families, being such practices based on the presuppositions of the Psychiatric Reform as a way of qualifying the work of substitute services on mental health and the care offered to the families. The way how the family care has been consolidated in the services represents a challenge to health professionals because it implies the restructuration of their education as well as a reflection process by all of the social actors involved in the changing process.
