Abstract in English
This work has as main objective to offer subsidies for projects development and optimization of operation of full-scale UASB reactors treatment wastewater generated in the production of sugar, from the startup up to full operation in the off season and harvest periods. The study consisted of an analysis of four UASB reactors operated in parallel with the following project characteristics: volume of 998.4 m³ each, totaling 3993.6 m³, hydraulic detention time of 26.6 hours and organic loading rate of 5.7 kgCOD/m³.day. The reactors were operated in a sugarcane plant treating the wastewater generated in the production of sugar, whose project COD is 6.340 mg/L. The operation of the treatment system occurred under the following conditions during the harvest: 1.6 days of average hydraulic retention time, average organic loading rate of 2.9 kgDQO/m³.day and average COD influent of 4,340 mg/L. The focus of this work was to assess the periods where the feed has not the same organic load present during the harvest, the return of treatment system feed with the organic load of reactor design (harvest period) and during the harvest period. Monitoring the UASB reactors operation lasted 731 days from the startup period, two off season and two harvest seasons. The efficiency of the UASB reactor reached on average 83% in the off season and 86% during the harvest season. The impact of wastewater seasonality was small, the concentration of solids in the UASB were slightly influenced and the dynamics volatile acids variations in the treated wastewater were slightly affected. The response period to increase the reactor influent organic load after 5 months starvation(feeding with low organic load)were about 15 days for the two harvest periods studied.
