Abstract in English
The study presents a method to evaluate the relationship of accidents involving cargo vehicles with the geometric characteristics of roads. Starting with a macroscopic analysis of a road section, the method details the accidents by sub-sections and then concentrates on critical regions or points from the the point of view of compatibility of the traffic of cargo vehicles with road geometry. A case study for a road section situated in the operation area of the DR3 of DER-SP, that is considered potentially hazardous and has a hjgh traffic volume of cargo vehicles, is presented. Based on the results of the case study, it is concluded that the hipothesis that there exists a relationship between accidents and road geometry is a sound one and deserves further investigation. A series of recommendations of improvements in road geometry of critical segments is presented, as well as recommendations of forms of improving the data and filling out of the Traffic Accidents Reports- RATs.
