Foi desenvolvido um sistema eletro-óptico, para medir correntes elétricas em sistemas elétricos de distribuição, possuindo baixo custo, eficiência, versatilidade e segurança. Neste sistema, uma bobina magnética, colocada próximo à linha e conectada em série com um diodo ou uma lâmpada elétrica, gera um sinal ótico que é transmitido por fibra ótica a um fotodetector. Ali o sinal de luz é convertido para um sinal elétrico para ser processado em um microcomputador. Um programa computacional dedicado, também desenvolvido, determina as correntes e também fornece relatórios dos sinais obtidos por longos períodos de tempo.

To measure electric currents on power distribution system 15 kV with low costs, efficiency, versatility and security, a magnetic-optic system was developed. In this system, a magnetic coil close to line and connected in series with a diode ar an electric lamp supplies an optic signal that is transmitted by fiber optic to a photo-detector. There the light signal is converted to electric signal to be processed in a microcomputer. A dedicated software for data acquisition that also here was developed determines the currents and also aims at supplying reports on the currents over a long period of time.
