Abstract in English
In view of the growth of the elderly population, this study aims to increase the theoretical knowledge of the variables that determine an efficient therapeutic process and contribute to the improvement of the vocal and life quality of healthy elderly. Since the elderly are living longer, they need to talk, be part of the social conversation and have opportunities to continue contributing to our society. A randomized, single-blind clinical trial was conducted with 27 elderly patients with a diagnosis of presbilaringe, of both genders, aged between 60 and 81 years. These were allocated in two groups, of which the semi-occluded vocal tract technique was performed with the use of resonance tubes. For the GI, the Titze tube is used and for the GII, the Lax-Vox tube is used. All participants completed the Vocal SpeechLanguage Therapy Program. These were the speech-language evaluation (T0) and 12 sessions of therapeutic interventions, the latter being also a re-evaluation (T12). Intra-subject analysis was performed for acoustic, aerodynamic and voice selfperception measurements, before (T0) and after completing the G12 and GII Program (T12). In addition, we performed an inter-subject analysis for GI and GII on the acoustic measurements during the Program (T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10, T11 and T12). Student's t test was used for continuous variables and the MannWhitney test, sum of Wilcoxon sign posts, for intra- and inter-subject comparison. Used the Tukey Test, when observed statistical difference for group variables time verses. According to the results, in the intra-subject analysis, in relation to the acoustic measurements, a significant difference was observed in all measurements of frequency and amplitude disturbance; for noise measurements only difference was found in the measurement Soft Fonting Index. Regarding the aerodynamic phonatory measurements, a difference was observed in the measures of the Vocal Efficiency, Maximum Phonation Time and Pulmonary Vital Capacity protocols. Differences were also found, in relation to the self perception of the participants' voices. In the inter subject analysis, there were differences of the same acoustic measures, of the intra subject analysis. Only for the Soft Phonation Index measure, there was no significance for the GI. Therefore, the Speech Therapy Program for Presbyopia was effective. Observed improvement of the acoustic parameters, aerodynamic phonatory and self-perception of voice, after completing the same. There was an improvement in the vocal quality of the participants, with reduction of hoarseness and breathiness, that is, improvement of the vibration pattern of vocal fold mucosa and glottic coaptation. The semi-occluded vocal tract technique with the use of resonance tubes, Titze and Lax-Vox promote these improvements and from the fifth speech therapy these are evident.
