Abstract in English
This research analyzes the architectural work of the contemporary Swiss architect Peter Zumthor, located after 1985, in the construction of his creative field, that is, in the recognition of the factors that influence his own design procedures, in order to contribute to the deepening understand of his questions. In this sense, his biographical formation related to a craftsman's environment and his professional experience focused on the historical patrimony, concomitant with the factors of the swiss architectural context of the period, are related, mainly, to the influence of the theories of Aldo Rossi, Minimalist art and artist Joseph Beuys. Some common design strategies of the generation of swiss architects from this context are emphasized in order to recognize Zumthor among a generational debate. His design methodology is approached focusing on the production of physical models in his studio. The research on his poiesis is contemplated by means of the direct analysis of his projects, from the report of the visit to the buildings until the selection of a group of projects debated with greater emphasis. Technique and Place, two fundamental questions for the architect, are addressed in the analysis of the projects Sogn Benedetg Chapel (Switzerland, 1985-88), Atelier Zumthor (Switzerland, 1985-86), Shelter for Roman Archaeological Ruins (Switzerland, 1985-86), Bregenz Art Museum (Austria, 1989-97) and Bruder Klaus Field Chapel (Germany, 2000-07).
