Abstract in English
This research investigates project methodologies of three contemporary architecture firms, seeking to understand their modi operandi through the study of experimental houses, in order to discuss their productions. Such houses aim at an expansion of the architectural lexicon transcending the classical currents of modernism and postmodernism and introducing new aspects such as space neutrality, boundaries ambivalence, and tensioning of abstract forms. Poli House from Pezo Von Ellrichshausen, Chile, 2005, articulates the program through a vertical peripheral circulation that "inhabits" the façades, creating a complex internal organization system that explores different levels and feet-rights. Moriyama House by Ryue Nishizawa, Japan, 2005, "explode" the domestic program into autonomous volumes through the site interspersed with a street open garden, establishing an unused relationship between construction, site and city. Finally, House in Coruche from Aires Mateus, Portugal, 2007, evokes the archetypical house with a pitched roof, transformed into an abstract form that is excavated in a subtractive drawing process. The work is divided in three chapters, each of them dedicated to a firm and to the analysis of the selected house. In the conclusion, there is a discussion about the characteristics that approach and distance work methodologies, establishing the evidences of a new creative language in contemporary architecture.
