Esta pesquisa trata-se da análise física e social dos diferentes tipos de intervenção em urbanização de favelas, promovidas pelo poder público, através de dois estudos de caso: Sapé, onde apenas parte da favela foi removida para dar espaço à canalização do córrego, novos viários e conjuntos habitacionais, e Jardim Edite, onde a favela foi totalmente removida para a construção dos condomínios. A partir da revisão bibliográfica de textos recentes e da experiência na área de urbanização de favelas, foi elaborada uma metodologia através de metas e descritores, de forma a identificar se as diferentes ações realizadas propiciaram, em alguma medida, uma condição de moradia adequada para os habitantes, tanto em seus aspectos físicos como sociais.

This research brings a physical and social analysis of the different types of intervention in slum upgrading, promoted by the public power, through two case studies: Sapé, where only part of the slum was removed to give space to the channeling of the stream, new roads and housing projects, and Jardim Edite, where the slum was totally removed for the construction of condominiums. Based on the bibliographic review of recent texts and the experience in the area of slum upgrading, a methodology was elaborated through goals and descriptors, in order to identify if the different actions performed, to some extent, provided a suitable housing condition for the inhabitants, both in their physical and social aspects.
