A presente dissertação visa recuperar e analisar criticamente a trajetória da Hobjeto Indústria e Comércio de Móveis S.A., fundada por Geraldo de Barros e Antônio Bioni em meados da década de 1960, considerando a sua importância para a produção e disseminação do móvel e estilo modernos. A fim de possibilitar uma leitura crítica visando a compreensão sobre a contribuição da Hobjeto para o panorama sócio cultural e do design brasileiro, a dissertação parte do estudo da história de vida de Geraldo de Barros com foco em sua participação na Hobjeto com o desenho e produção industrial do móvel moderno, as características de seus produtos, o público alvo, os locais e formas de vendas, fatores estes conformadores de uma identidade coerente com os ideais do artista e designer que colaboraram para a difusão do móvel e estilo modernos ainda desconhecidos pela maioria da população. A dissertação adota procedimentos de resgate histórico e documental em fontes primárias e secundárias, a partir de levantamentos bibliográficos, iconográficos, de bases digitais, de depoimentos de protagonistas e personagens que vivenciaram o cotidiano da Hobjeto, a fim de construir o percurso da empresa para a compreensão de seu papel no panorama do design de mobiliário no Brasil.

The current research aims to recover and analyze critically the trajectory of Hobjeto Indústria e Comércio de Móveis S.A., founded by Geraldo de Barros and Antônio Bioni in the 1960s, considering your value for the production and propagation of modern furniture and style. In order to provide a critical reading aiming for the understanding about the Hobjeto's contribution to the cultural and Brazilian design panorama, the research starts with the study of Geraldo de Barros's life history focusing on his participation in Hobjeto with the design and industrial production of the modern furniture, the characteristics of its products, the target public, the places and forms of sales, factors that conform an identity consistent with the ideals of the artist and designer who collaborated to the diffusion of modern furniture and style still unknown by the majority of the population. The research adopts procedures of historical and documentary rescue in primary and secondary sources, based on bibliographical, iconographic, digital databases, testimonies of protagonists and characters who lived the daily life of Hobjeto, in order to build the company's path to the understanding of its role in the panorama of the furniture design in Brazil.
