Abstract in English
This dissertation addresses the production of art by Flávio Império (1935-1985) between 1965 and the mid-1980s. The period covered goes from the first collective professional exhibition of the artist (Opinion 65) until his death, in the mid-1980s. From this spectrum, we selected sets of works that enable us to describe and analyze and procedures adopted by Império, verifying continuities, discontinuities and gestures in his work over time, resuming dialogues with the production of other Brazilian artists. In this way, understand how Império re-elaborates and updates modes of ranging from operations identified with American Pop Art reference to traditional painting techniques. It is intended, therefore, to structure readings of Império that allow a contextualized and situated understanding of its work. By going through various professional means - in addition to the theater, the office of architecture and university teaching - it is considered here that the analysis of the artist's production can contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the artistic production made in Brazil during these decades.
