A presente dissertação de mestrado analisa o Centro de Arte Contemporânea Inhotim - Caci, um espaço que oferece transformações espaciais e culturais por meio da complexa relação entre arquitetura, arte e paisagem. O Caci expõe um conjunto ímpar de arte contemporânea e de plantas tropicais, que convivem com pavilhões assinados, em grande parte, por jovens arquitetos. Embora o Caci seja um centro de arte contemporânea, a arte não é sua única protagonista. Além da arte, arquitetura e paisagismo coexistem de forma harmônica. No entanto, a importância de cada componente e como cada um impacta no ambiente são temas que ainda não foram completamente explorados. De forma geral, a análise dos três eixos do Caci, arquitetura dos jovens arquitetos, a exuberante paisagem tropical e as obras exponenciais dos artistas consagrados, têm a finalidade de identificar e avaliar os possíveis conflitos que cada componente exerce sobre o outro e sobre o ambiente. Paralelamente, verifica-se o papel da arquitetura praticada no lugar e se esta possui um papel secundário. A dissertação divide-se em três capítulos. O primeiro envolve a análise de pavilhões focados na arquitetura local. Os pavilhões são observados como recurso atual para expor arte contemporânea, que envolve a forma, o método de projeto, a escolha do lugar e dos materiais. O segundo capítulo analisa se a arquitetura dos pavilhões está adequada, em relação ao aspecto espaço-temporal, às obras de arte expostas. Por fim, o último capítulo investiga os requisitos que levaram o Caci a receber o título de jardim botânico. Para abarcar a reflexão nos três capítulos, estudos comparativos foram realizados entre pares de projetos concebidos no espaço do Caci. Tais estudos trazem informações importantes sobre os pavilhões, o cenário e os locais adjacentes à área escolhida.

This thesis analyses the Center for Contemporary Art Inhotim (Caci), which is a space that offers spatial and cultural transformations through a complex interrelationship between architecture, art and landscape. In general terms, the Caci exposes an unique set of contemporary art and tropical plants, which can be found alongside pavilions signed largely by young architects. Although the Caci is largely known as a museum that presents contemporary art, there are other important components on display, such as the architecture and the landscape. However, the importance of each component and their impact are areas of study that still remain quite disregarded. The intention is to verify the relationship between the three variables: the architecture of young architects, the tropical landscape, and, finally, the works of established artists in order to check the possible conflicts that each component exerts on the other and on the environment. Additionally, the objective is also to understand the role of the museum"s architecture and whether such role is secondary. The research is divided into three chapters. The first involves the analysis of pavilions focused on local architecture. These pavilions are seen as a resource for exhibiting contemporary art that involves the project"s method, the choice of place and materials that are used. The second chapter analizes whether the architecture of pavilions is adequate to the works of art they expose in relation to the spatial-temporal aspect. Finally, the last chapter investigates the requirements which led Caci to receive the title of botanical garden. Such research is based, among other factors, on a comparative analysis with other botanical gardens in Brazil. Along the way, comparative studies were performed between pairs of projects designed within the Caci. These studies bring important information regarding the pavilions, the scenery and the place nearby the chosen área.
