As favelas constituem uma realidade consolidada na cidade de São Paulo. Apesar de carências infraestruturais, os interstícios urbanos de favela configuram potencialidades para promoção de vida urbana, coesão comunitária, mobilidade, lazer, geração de renda e conforto ambiental urbano e edilício. Isto posto, como fazer valer as oportunidades urbanas latentes dos interstícios e interfaces de favela? O objetivo é caracterizar e experimentar a requalificação ambiental, urbana e social do objeto de pesquisa, os interstícios e interfaces urbanos da Favela de Paraisópolis, a segunda maior de São Paulo. O Método é fundamentalmente empírico, com avaliação da situação existente, a partir de critérios pré-estabelecidos, seguida pela proposição de alternativas e estratégias para a apropriação dos interstícios e interfaces urbanos de favela, como efetivos espaços de convivência e vida urbanos. O desenho é ferramenta fundamental de investigação. A sobreposição de estratégias ambientais, urbanas e sociais, envolvendo diferentes escalas e agentes, com foco na reativação de espaços intersticiais e permeabilização do ambiente construído conduz à requalificação da favela, como organismo urbano a inspirar a reconstrução da própria cidade dita formal.

The favelas constitute a consolidated reality in the city of Sao Paulo. Despite the infrastructural lacks, the favela's urban interstices configure potentialities for promoting urban life, community cohesion, mobility, leisure, income generation, and environmental comfort, in urban and building scales. Thus, how to enforce the latent urban opportunities of the favelas' urban interstices and interfaces? The objective is characterizing and experiencing the environmental, urban and social requalification of the research object, the urban interstices and interfaces of the Paraisópolis Favela, the second biggest one in Sao Paulo. The Method is fundamentally empiric, starting with the existing situation evaluation, from pre-established criteria, followed by the proposal of alternatives and strategies for the appropriation of the favela's urban interstices and interfaces as effective living spaces for urban life. Drawing is a fundamental investigation tool. The overlap of environmental, urban and social strategies, involving different scales and stakeholders, focusing in the reactivation of interstitial spaces and the permeabilization of the built environment leads to the favela's enhancement, as an urban organism to inspire the reconstruction of the formal city.
