O principal objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a estratégia como condicionante da estrutura organizacional. Visando confirmar os estudos teóricos, aplica-se uma pesquisa comparativa em seis cadeias de lojas de mesmo setor. Os dados são coletados através de questionários e entrevistas estruturadas, visando comparar as diferenças estratégicas e estruturais entre as cadeias de lojas. O interesse por este estudo surgiu no decorrer de alguns anos de atividade docente em cursos de Administração e do estudo de casos de organizações. Avaliando as diferenças entre as estruturas das empresas analisadas, buscaram-se as possíveis relações entre estratégia e estrutura, determinando seu grau de influência. A influência da estratégia genérica sobre a estrutura organizacional é representada pelo modelo apresentado neste trabalho, dividido em cinco capítulos. O primeiro capítulo caracteriza o problema analisado, assim como a origem do interesse em desenvolver o estudo. O segundo aborda a revisão da literatura, definindo-se a terminologia usada. O terceiro descreve a metodologia utilizada no levantamento de dados. O quarto apresenta a análise dos resultados e o quinto, a conclusão do estudo.

The main goal of this thesis is to analyse the strategy as condition to the firm structure. A comparative research was developed among six business chains to confirm the theory study. Data was surveyed with questionnaires and structured interviews in order to compare the strategic and structural differences between the analysed business chains. The interest on studying this matter emerged during some years of teaching Management and case studies. Assessing the differences between the analysed firms’ structures, likely relations between strategy and structure may determine their influence level. The generic strategy influence on the firm structure is represented by the model presented in this thesis divided in five chapters. The first chapter characterizes the analysed problem, as well as how this interest aroused. The second chapter is the theory approach, defining the terms. The third describes the data survey methodology. The fourth chapter presents the results analysis and the fifth, the conclusion.
