Mesmo que apenas 4,7% das redes de franquias brasileiras atuem internacionalmente, na última década o processo de internacionalização das redes de franquias brasileiras apresentou um crescimento de 300%. Existem atualmente cerca 70 redes de franquias brasileiras em operação em todos os continentes, representando cerca de 49 países, constituindo mais de 700 unidades franqueadas. Esta tese realizou uma análise organizacional e institucional envolvendo as redes de franquias brasileiras com operações no exterior. Na análise organizacional, a aplicação das Teorias da Agência e Escassez de Recursos auxilia a análise de uma série de variáveis que podem ser determinantes em operações internacionais pelas redes de franquias. Espera-se contribuir com esta tese, por meio do desenvolvimento de um framework que considera as variáveis organizacionais relacionadas ao crescimento da rede de franquias, à habilidade para monitoramento e controle das operações, ao prestigio da rede e às taxas de investimento e manutenção. Assim, esta tese procurou responder a seguinte questão de pesquisa: Quais são as diferenças organizacionais existentes entre as redes de franquias brasileiras com operações domésticas e as redes de franquias brasileiras com operações internacionais? Foram selecionadas 96 redes de franquias brasileiras com operações domésticas e 67 redes de franquias brasileiras com operações internacionais. Os resultados destacaram o maior empenho em operações internacionais pelas redes com menor prestígio da marca e menor requerimento de investimento. Adicionalmente, a preocupação reside em analisar o mercado internacional a ser escolhido. Nesta análise espera-se contribuir com esta tese através do estabelecimento de um framework envolvendo determinantes institucionais do país de destino, contemplando análises dos fatores demográficos, econômicos, socioculturais, políticos e governamentais e; corporativos e legais que afetam a operação das franquias. Com isso, tem-se o seguinte questionamento de pesquisa: Quais são as características institucionais dos países de destino das redes de franquias brasileiras? Foram criados quatro clusters envolvendo 54 redes de franquias em 41 países de operação e 180 unidades de operação no exterior pelas redes de franquias brasileiras.

Although currently 4.7% of Brazilian franchise chains have international operations, in the last decade the internationalization process of Brazilian franchise chains has shown 300% growth. There are actually 70 Brazilian franchise chains in operation currently. They are operating on every continent, in 49 different countries and total 700 units. This growth is institutionally beneficial to the entire franchise sector and to the Brazilian Franchising Association. In organizational analysis, the application of the Agency Theory and Resources Scarcity assist the analysis of a number of variables that can be decise in international operations by franchising chains. This thesis expect to contribute by developing a framework that considers the organizational variables related to chain growth; the ability to monitor and control operations; the chain prestige; the investment and maintenance rates. Than, this thesis sought to answer the following research question: What are the organizational differences between the brazilian franchise chains with domestic operations and the brazilian franchise chains with international operations? It was selected 96 Brazilian franchises chains with domestic operations and 67 Brazilian franchise chains with international operations. The data were provided from franchise yearbooks published by the Brazilian Franchising Association and the Serasa Experian. These data were treated using the logistic regression. The results highlighted the greater engagement in international operations for the chains with less prestigious brand prestige and lower investment requeriment. Additional, there is a still concern in analyzing the international market to be choosen. This analysis expects to contribute to this thesis through the establishment of a framework involving institutional determinants from the destination country, regarding analysis of factors demographic, economic, sociocultural, political and government, corporate and law affecting the operations of the franchise. Given this context, this thesis I sought to answer the follow research question: What are the institutional characteristics of the destination countries of Brazilian franchises chains? The data were provided from international institutions. It was created four clusters involving 54 Brazilian franchise chains in 41 operation countries and 180 operationg abroad by Brazilian franchise chains.
