Abstract in English
The economic agents always take decisions by a rational analysis of all involved options and choose the one that implies the greatest utility. Such rationality, however, began to be complained after the burst of speculative bubbles in the main international financial markets since 2000, bringing to the surface Behavior Finance theoretical framework. This Modern Finances ramification, which began during the 1970, assumes being the economic agents endowed with a bounded rationality. This is a result, according to Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky, Economic Nobel Prize winners in 2002, of the use of heuristics which simplify the decision making process. Examples of such heuristics are the ease with ideas can be brought to mind (availability), the influence of past events in the decision making process (representativeness) and the existence of a reference which can impact the decisions making process (anchoring). The systematic use of such heuristics could lead to a partial assessment of futures perspectives involving uncertainty and risk, which the authors called Certainty, Reflection and Isolation Effects which, by its turn, could also influence the decision making process, culminating in the elaboration of the Prospect Theory. Based on the Prospect Theory and on the existence of biased decision behaviors, preconized by the Behavior Finance theoretical framework, the present work aimed to identify if the main principles of such Modern Finances ramification applies to post-graduation Brazilian student regarding to investment decisions. The used method was the application of an adapted questionnaire used in one of Kahneman and Tversky´s main works. In this way, it was tested the existence of the Certainty, Reflection and Isolation Effects. Besides that, it was aimed to execute and assess correlations between respondent´s characteristics and their behavior when facing investment decisions presented by the adapted questionnaire. The results showed the existence of biased behaviors, characterized by the presence of the Certainty, Reflection and Isolation Effects. In the same way, it was possible to confirm the correlation between such biased behaviors and some of the student´s characteristics. Regarding the main conclusions, men presented more biased behaviors, as well as student graduated in Business Administration, without experience in the financial area nor with third party asset management, with formal employment relationship and the ones which assess more frequently their investment performance.
