Abstract in English
Environmental degradation due to unplanned land use and occupation, has caused several changes in the landscape. Given the need to preserve natural resources, the right planning for land use and occupation is an important and indispensable task. Permanent Preservation Areas (PPA) and Legal Reserve (LR) are the main tools for environment protection, particularly against soil erosion. The main goal of this research was to apply the MULSE model associate to geoprocessing techniques to evaluate the sediment contribution in a watershed by the implementation of PPA and LR. The work employed data from the Ribeirão dos Marins watershed, located in the Piracicaba municipality, state of São Paulo. In order to attain the better outcomes, several scenarios for PPA an LR implementation were simulated, trying different locations and area coverage and evaluating sediment contribution, both for the watershed and for each private property that surrounds it. It was found that PPA and LR implementation presented positive effects regarding soil loses with LR giving the best result. Also, it was possible to determinate that peak flow values and total aggregate volume on the surface after a precipitation event impact the sediment amount, with a stronger relation in places where a higher slope is observed. Moreover, PPA and LR implementation were found to decrease peak flow value and aggregate volume. It was thus established that PPA and LR, especially LR, give a strong contribution against soil loses and minimize peak flow value and aggregate surface volume.
