It’s widely known that the relation between net distribution and trees in the street is, nowadays, one of the main problems of street arborization, being pruning, the best method used to solve it. Although at the first moment freeing the utility lines from the branches will stimulate new buds, in a short time they will reach the lines again. In order to study the pruning made in urban trees and analyze new techniques that may be used to reduce pruning, improve the relationship between the species and the net, and permit that the trees fulfill its proper ecological function, studies were made concerning the 3 main types of electric distribution: aerial conventional, compact and underground in 4 electric energy companies. The theorical part of the study showed the costs of implanting the 3 named nets and also the costs of pruning and tree maintenance. As to the practical part, 100 trees were studied in each one of these cities, Piracicaba/SP, Maringá/PR and Belo Horizonte/MG, gathering information about their phytotechnical conditions and localization for statistical analysis through the SAS statistical computer software program. According to the companies the cost of implantation of the conventional aerial net ranged from R$54.188,39/km to R$67.571,43/km and from R$11.703,83/km to R$20.028,83/km only for the primary net. The cost of implantation of the compact net ranged from R$36.519,61/km to R$62.215,99/km. To transform a conventional net into a compact one costs R$31.063,64/km to R$42.951,79/km. The cost of implantation the underground net was R$436.585,04/km including the workmanship. The cost of pruning, in primary net was R$20,00/tree and in the secondary one R$6,00/tree. Considering primary net + secondary, the cost ranged from R$32,02/tree to R$68,82/tree. In the field work it was observed that 1% of the trees in Piracicaba were not pruned, opposite of 24% in Maringá. Due to the satisfactory classification in the general aspect of the trees, to the high percentage of trees with no pruning, to the 4,17% of trees with no pruning under utility lines, to the smallest volume of pruned trees, to practically the same cost in implantation and 79,5% of reduction in maintenance costs, we can say that it is totally possible to use compact lines of distribution instead of the conventional ones. As to the satisfactory classification concerning the general aspect of the trees, reasonable percentage of the trees with no pruning, no need of drastic pruning, 1/3 reduction of the maintenance costs and high reliability of the system, we can affirm that the use of underground net is favorable, but it must be analyzed due to its high initial investment, about 10 times higher than the conventional one.
