Title in Portuguese
Reação de linhagens de feijão guandu [Cajanus cajan (l.) millspaugh] frente a Meloidogyne javanica, Pratylenchus zeae E Rotylenchulus reniformis (Nematoda: Tylenchoidea)
Keywords in Portuguese
Controle cultural (Fitossanidade)
Guandu
Nematóides parasitos de plantas.

Host status of Brazilian pigeonpea lines [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millspaugh] to Meloidogyne javanica, Rotylenchulus reniformis and Pratylenchus zeae (Nematoda: Tylenchoidea)

Abstract in English
Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan) is a green manure often used in crop rotation in Brazil. Despite this, the host status of pigeonpea lines to major phytonematodes remains unknown. Thereby, this work dealt with the assessment of the host status of Brazilian lines to Meloidogyne javanica, Rotylenchulus reniformis and Pratylenchus zeae under greenhouse conditions. The reaction (resistant/susceptible) for each tested interaction was defined with basis on the data of nematode reproduction factor and nematode number per gram of roots. Three out five experiments were related to M. javanica (Pi=1000 nematodes/plot with three plants), including evaluation of 40 lines; the host reaction showed large variation, ranging from high resistance to high susceptibility, but susceptible lines prevailed. In a fourth experiment, all lines that were assessed (n=10) in relation to R. reniformis (Pi=1500 nematodes/plot) were rated as susceptible, with mean RF values much higher than the one determined for the susceptible control. In the fifth experiment, all lines that were assessed (n=11) in relation to P. zeae (400 nematodes/plot) were rated as resistant. Practical implications of crop rotation of pigeonpea with sugarcane or cotton in nematode-infested fields are briefly discussed.
