Abstract in English
The aim of this study was to understand the different environmental education matrices present in the school of two municipal schools of Sao Paulo based on the theme of urban solid waste. The research was qualitative, with an exploratory objective, through a case study. Secondary sources investigated were: Political Pedagogical Projects and Science textbooks, in two municipal schools in the city of Sao Paulo. In-depth interviews were also conducted with members of the school community. From the discussion and practices around solid urban waste, research in both schools revealed that only a few traces of the critical approach to environmental education were presented in the schools investigated. The results showed that practices of environmental education and solid waste in the two municipal schools analyzed predominate pragmatic approaches. The anthropocentric character of the relationship between society and the environment is emphasized, without a critical reflection on the origin of socioenvironmental problems and their possible alternative solutions. The problem of production, consumption and waste disposal is reduced for selective collection, but not to criticism about what is produced and consumed, because, how and to what socioenvironmental costs
