Abstract in English
Based on the interest of conducting a discursive analysis on sexuality and gender in school environment, we have described the activities undertaken by the Project on Sexuality and Gender carried out in the Application School of the University of São Paulos Education Department, and coupled it with an analysis of the official documents of the Municipal (São Paulo), State (São Paulo) and National Education Plans, together with the National Curricular Parameters with emphasis on the Transversal Sexual Orientation Theme. Thereby, we have tried to establish relationships between the experience observed within the school, the governmental discourse, and other events and discourses, such as episodes occurring in other schools which have stirred the media, and the contemporary academic production on the subject. In adopting an archaeological-genealogical perspective, we have observed that two key concepts employed by Michel Foucault truth and normality have appeared in all activities throughout the Project; we have therefore decided to turn our attention to the ways these concepts presented themselves in the classroom dynamics. In the context of this school, the first concept emerged discursively under the five following aspects: technical-scientific, religious, social convention, authority and experience. The second appeared in statements that sexual and gender divisions maintain social relations, in problematizations and defenses thereof, in assumptions of heterosexuality or of an idea of what is natural as regards bodies, and in references to patterns within homosexuality and transsexuality. With this research, we aim to reflect on whether, adopting discourses and methods similar to those used by the state true discourses and normalizing practices would contribute to intensify the rule of the population, as opposed to rejecting practices that produce and reaffirm truths and norms on identities
