Abstract in English
The debut of the ballet La Sylphide by Philippe Taglioni in 1832 at the Théâtre de l'Académie Royale de Musique in Paris has profoundly and definitively transformed the way of staging and designing new ballets. This ballet, one of the masterpieces of classical dance, ushered in the age of romantic ballet and innovated in many aspects of scenic production. With La Sylphide was born a revolutionary costume, the romantic tutu, which has become a canon of classic dance attire to this day. This research aims to carry out a bibliographical and documentary study of the costumes of the Sylph character of the ballet La Sylphide by Philippe Taglioni, from the reconstruction of this ballet by Pierre Lacotte to the Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris and the Corpo de Baile do Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro (CBTMRJ). The research investigates possible associations of the formal design and constructive aspects of this wardrobe with the aesthetic of the feminine clothings of the romantic period. The main sources of research in this study are the bibliography specialized in the history of dance and clothings, from design of ballet costumes, as well as documents from the collection of the Fundação Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, where the data were collected through interviews, analysis and measurements of the pieces of the collection of costumes. The wardrobe of the La Sylphide production of the CBTMRJ stores a rich body of data on the making of classical dance costumes over the centuries, which this research intends to disseminate and preserve, contributing to the access to the bibliography on classic ballet costume and the qualification and enhancement of skilled labor
