The aim of this study is the analyze of the parameters for the adjustment of occlusal dental arches of stable horses for more than 1 year to obtain an optimal functional occlusion. It was measured the lateral excursion of the jaw, at the point of start of occlusal contact molar / premolar; the angle of occlusal molar teeth and premolar through trigonometric calculations, the prevalence of the need to reduce the size of the incisor teeth. According to the measurements obtained and assessments carried out it was determined that the measurements above would be valid as an aid, occlusal adjustment in order to maintain symmetry and balance of the dental arches to obtain the optimal functional occlusion in horses. We evaluated 75 horses (Equus caballus) healthy, male and female, aged between six and 15 years, stable for more than a year. Results: 9 (12%) animals had incisor teeth with a standard, 66 (88%) showed misaligned incisors of diagonal or ventral curvature form. Among the 75 animals examined, 34 (45.3%) needed to reduce the length of vertical incisor teeth. In the analysis of parameters to be used for occlusal adjustment was high statistical significant (p <0.0001) to the need to reduce the vertical size of the incisors teeth on extending the lateral excursion of the jaw larger than 15 mm and prevalence diagonal of incisors in the presence of lateral excursion of the asymmetrical jaw. It was also observed that the need to reduce the vertical size of the incisors teeth in the type of format, physical condition and the presence of digestive disorders and / or masticator, showed minimal statistical significance (p <0.05). No statistical significance was observed (p> 0.05) in the prevalence of the need to reduce the size of incisors in the type of misalignment, to extend the opening of incisors, symmetry of the tour side of the mandible and the presence of difficulties in riding. In the period from 90 to 120 days after the dental intervention the riders and the owners were asked about possible changes in the animals with the following results: there was improvement and facilitation of riding in 59 (78.3%) patients; 43 (56.5%) patients were more willing to work or walk; 36 (48.3%) patients had greater willingness to eat and improves of appetite, 48 (65.2%) had gained weight and muscle mass and 43 (56.5%) of treated patients were more quiet and calm. Conclusion: The measurement of the length of the tour side of the jaw at the start of occlusal contact molar / premolar and the presence of asymmetry of these measures are of great value as a guide for guidance on achieving balance and balancing between hemi-arches molar / pre -molar and the guidance of the need to align the incisors, provided that the measurements are conducted in both hemi-faces of the patient. Therefore, the need to reduce the incisors would be a characteristic of the individual patient. We could not validate the proposed mathematical calculation to determine the molar occlusal / premolar angle and use it as a parameter for occlusal adjustment in horses. Behavioral changes reported by users of animals, which have become more relaxed and calm after adjusting occlusal suggested that, perhaps, that the patients suffered from painful sindrome in face and oral cavity region.
