Abstract in English
The Brazilian dairy production has a highlight position in the world production, in this way the management and routine practices in the farms are of great financial impact in the cattle livestock. The care with calves, animal handlers and use of medications has been a worldwide concern. Bovine dehorning performed on calves often occurs with the aim of reducing herd and handlers injuries. Phototherapy has shown to be a promising therapy for wound repair, helping in tissue repair due to its biomodulating action, when associated with a photosensitizer reduces microbial load. Burns causes pain, and systemic changes can even cause death of calves, in this way phototherapy becomes a promising treatment for the treatment of burns. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different phototherapies on the hemogram, hepatic and renal profile of calves submitted to hot iron dehorning during the recovery of the burns. Thirty male Holstein calves were used, four to six weeks of age, submitted to the process of dehorning by hot iron and divided into five groups according to the treatments: G1 - control group - ointment based on zinc oxide; G2- red laser group (LV) (λ= 660nm, 70J / cm2); G3 - infrared (IV) laser (λ=810nm, 70J / cm2); G4 - red LED (λ=660nm, 10.8J / cm2) and G5 - photodynamic therapy group (PDT), red LED (λ=660nm, 10.8J / cm2) associated with the topical methylene blue 0,01% as a photosensitizer. The treatment was performed in a single application in both horns, immediately after dehorning and the animals were followed up by physical examination, hemogram and biochemical tests to determine the hepatic and renal profile at moments: M1 - immediately before dehorning, M2 - 2 h after dehorning, M3 - 4 h after dehorning, M4 - three days after dehorning, M5 - seven days after dehorning, M6 - 14 days after dehorning and M7 - 21 days after dehorning. The results showed that burns does not cause significant alterations in hemogram, hepatic and renal profiles. Through the results, it was possible to conclude that the use of phototherapies did not influence the hemogram, hepatic and renal profile of dehorned calves, it does not present adverse effects and is therefore recommended with alternative therapeutic option in the treatment of burn lesions.
